a conversation on the masses

oft times i hear people say "t.v. is pointless," "it sucks your life away," "it is dumb and a waste of time," yet these same people spend hours and hours watching movies. these people will argue that moives are artistic and cause one to think more about thier life etc.., hence making them worthwhile. but if that's the case, why cannot t.v do the same thing? i see it as a huge contradiciton, for if you support movies, you are supporting popular culture, and if you are supporting popular culture, you are supporting television. but wait, what if the movies are indie movies, that is so much better than mainstream ones and thus way better than t.v. but though it seems to make one an outsider amongst some people for admitting they like t.v. and programs on it (a taboo today amongst many) i disagree and feel that t.v. can be a source that causes conversation and thought for those who watch it.

though admittingly t.v can and does waste time when aimlessly flipping through to see what is on, moives can and also do the same thing.
