there is a mountain goats song that i have just recently heard called elijah, which has quickly become my new favorite. something interesting about john darnielle is that he puts out everything he has ever recorded, whether he thinks people will like it or not. it is something like 400+ songs. i respect him a lot for this, because in doing so he makes himself more human then most musicians, since some of his songs are pretty medicore (as is life-sometimes it is good, sometimes it is not). and i think he probably knows that not every song he writes is a hit. but it does not seem to matter much. this is all speculation of course. anyway, in the elijah song, there are some really great lyrics that go:

"set the table, those three extra places; one for me, one for your doubts, and one for god. and let the incense burn in every room. and feel the fullness of time in the empty tomb. feel the future kicking in your womb. i am coming home"
