marie antoinette

i am really surprised at how much i like marie antoinette. like i knew i was probably going to like it, since it is the type of movie i SHOULD like. but i genuinely enjoyed it. such a beautiful movie, how it was shot, the sets and costumes etc. and though at the beginning i thought kirstin dunst was pretty bogus, she ended up growing on me and turned out pleasant.

i think the movie touched on some really universal themes, ie. lonliness; pressure from family to be the best; misguided love. and some of the scenes where they showed these themes were really so great. and it was refreshing to see a period piece played to modern music since it made it more relatable.

though i must say i was somewhat confused at the ending. it was sped up too much and left the audience assuming that they knew the history of france. but maybe that was a good thing. it's not like the movie explained itself much anyway.
