what is a conscience?

the complex of ethical and moral principles that controls or inhibits the actions or thoughts of an individual.

does a conscience only "inhibit the actions or thoughts of an individual" because that individual is concerned of how others will view them? if there was someone (parents, girlfriends/boyfriends, acquantices) that did not care for what you did, or did not see it as something of an ethical or moral dilema, would you still have a conscience? when people agree on the same things that you do, should this not get rid of the conscience? should this also not bond people together? i have a strong feeling that if someone were to agree with me on things, we would not feel guilty of the things we do, cause we'd understand why we do the things we do. how do i know this? i have experienced it in the flesh.
